Mauguio is just a few km from Montpellier. Both Rabelais and Nostradamus studied in this French university town. But the latter did not predict that it would one day become a Mediterranean mélange of different cultures. Now Montpellier's medieval centre historique is a wanderer's paradise with some 16 squares, from the grand, humming place de la Comédie to charming little oases scattered throughout the winding streets of the old quarter.
