Location
Situated in northern Brittany, 30 km south of St Brieuc and the coast, 120 km from Mt St Michel, 100 km from the ferry at St Malo. 12 km south of the beautiful town of Quintin with its rich architectural heritage, flower filled parks, festivities and gastronomic specialities.
Environment : By Bosméléac lake, offering a sandy man-made beach, shady footpaths, canoe and pedalo hire and fishing (permit required).
PLACES TO SEE:
St Brieuc. 30 km. Major city situated between the steep sided valleys of the River Gouedic to the east and the River Gouet to the west. Famous for its scallops.
Lamballe. 35 km. Medieval town, full of character, with many beautiful historic buildings and half-timbered houses. Home of the National Stud Farm, world famous for its stallions and as a centre of excellence for dressage. Also a famous weekly market.
Pontivy. 35 km. Quaint market town with both a Napoleonic and medieval quarter overlooked by its fabulous 15th century moated castle. Situated on the banks of the Nantes to Brest Canal, it has a lovely atmosphere and boasts a large variety of restaurants and bars. Don’t miss the market every Monday morning!
St Quay Portrieux. 50 km. Popular seaside resort with busy marina and bustling fishing port.
THINGS TO DO:
Guerlédan lake, Mûr de Bretagne. 25 km. An ideal destination for watersports and walking. With its 400 hectare surface and a depth of 45m, Guerlédan lake is the largest in Brittany. It offers a wide range of outdoor activities, bordered by the beautiful Quénécan.
Kite Surfing school, St Brieuc. 30 km. Watersports. Learn to kite surf in all security with a pro (Tadeg Normand broke the sand yachting speed world record in 2000). The school offers introduction lessons as well as 3, 9 or 18-hour courses using the best equipment.
Centre aquatique Aquabaie, St Brieuc. 30 km. Pool. The largest pool complex in Brittany! Leisure and swimming pools, slides, paddling pool. In a centre with spa and squash.
Golf La Crinière, Lamballe. 35 km. Golf course. 9 holes Par 36 - 2780m. Designed by one of the best architects of French golf courses, it is a fine 9 hole course and is intended to be challenging but not impossible for high handicapped players. Woodland setting, in the grounds of a 17th century castle providing a lovely environment for a game of golf.
FURTHER AFIELD:
Ile de Bréhat. 70 km. In reality, 2 traffic-free islands linked by a tiny bridge, just a few kilometres off Paimpol. One of the most beautiful sites in Brittany and renowned as a sanctuary for rare species of wild flowers as well as for birds of all kinds. To be discovered on foot or by bike (available for hire on arrival).
St Cast le Guildo. 75 km. Small but lively seaside resort with an impressive 7 beaches and secret inlets. A paradise to water fanatics with a multitude of activities and water sports available to all. Also beautiful views of the Emerald Coast and Cap Fréhel and ideal for delightful coastal walks.
Cap Fréhel. 75 km. Peninsula offering stunning views over the Côte d'Émeraude into the Golfe de Saint-Malo. The most spectacular cliffs and undulating terrain covered in moorland and marshes make it a favourite hotspot for both locals and tourists.
Dinan. 85 km. Quaint medieval town situated along the banks of the River Rance. The beautifully preserved town boasts a castle, narrow cobbled streets and old timbered buildings. Definitely worth a visit.
